The Department of Economics at California State University, Long Beach offers a program leading to a Masters of Arts in Economics. This program is designed to prepare students for careers in the public or private sectors and gives a solid foundation for students who will pursue a doctorate degree. We specialize in areas of research that align with our recognized expert faculty members, including environment and natural resource economics, transportation economics, and international trade and development. Our program emphasizes applying economic theories using statistical methods and quantitative skills. The program consists of core courses in economic theory, econometrics, and research methods. The degree culminates with seminar courses in a specific field and general economics, where students undertake independent research projects. Students must successfully defend their research as part of a comprehensive exam to graduate. The program features a 30-unit curriculum that can be completed in as little as 3 semesters for full-time students. Core courses are offered in the evenings to accommodate working professionals.
