Life in a Blackout: Survival and Resistance in Kashmir
November 13 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
On August 5, 2019, the Indian government revoked the Kashmir’s semi-autonomous status and imposed a total communication blackout. Dr. Saiba Varma (UCSD), an anthropologist, was there and documented local life and resistance amidst these escalations. Please plan to attend an evening of conversation with Dr. Varma and Dr. Esa Syeed (CSULB) offering their insights into the situation in Kashmir. The presentation will focus on the Kashmiri struggle and how it intersects with other movements for human rights, freedom, and justice around the world.
This event has been generously made possible by the CLA Intersections Grant and is co-sponsored by Esa Syeed (Sociology), Kimberly Walters (International Studies), and Luke Wagner (International Studies).
