Beach Forensics Wins Again!
October 3, 2023 Last week, the Policy Debate duo of Diego Flores (Senior, Political Science) and Curtis Ortega (Sophomore, Africana Studies) were invited to compete at the Run For The Roses Round Robin hosted by the University of Kentucky. Only the top seven individual two-person policy debate teams are invited to this competition. Flores and Ortega finished 3rd in the race, with victories over University of Kentucky, Dartmouth, University of Iowa, and Georgetown University.
Days later, Flores and Ortega competed at the J. W. Patterson Debates (also hosted by University of Kentucky) against a pool of 101 of the nation’s top teams and 202 of the top competitors. Flores and Ortega advanced to elimination debates as the 5th seed, winning the 8th place and 10th place individual speaker awards. The duo finished as the Tournament Champions, taking down University of West Georgia, George Mason University, Wichita State University, Michigan State University, University of Kentucky, Wake Forest University, Emory, University of Southern California, and Georgetown University along the way.
The entire Beach Forensics squad heads to CSUN for the Robert Barbera later this month. Stay tuned, and GO BEACH!
