California Council for History Education: 6th Annual Conference

The California Council for History Education (CCHE) will hold its sixth annual conference on October 14th-15th in the University Student Union. The conference will feature the following scholars: Dr. Glenna Matthews, who will speak on “The Golden State in the Civil War,” University of Southern California Professor Alice Fahs, who will address “Women and the Civil War,” and UCLA Professor Emeritus Gary Nash, who will discuss “Forbidden Love: The Secret History of Mixed Race America.” The rest of the program offers many stimulating lectures by university scholars, field-tested lessons by teachers, and presentations by participants in — and directors of — Teaching American History grants from throughout the state.

Free reception: Friday evening, October 14th.

Registration Information

The advance conference registration fee is $85 for CCHE/NCHE members, $125 for non-members, and $30 for students. Registration fees for non-members and students include one-year memberships in both the CCHE and its national affiliate, the National Council for History Education. Download an advance conference registration form from the CCHE website. After October 7th, only on-site registration for the conference will be available.

Hotel Information

There is no “official” conference hotel. Instead, the CCHE has negotiated reduced rates at several area hotels so you can make your own selection and save money in the process. Visit the CCHE website for the list of hotels.

Driving Directions and Parking Information

For directions to the CSULB campus, click here. See the campus map for the location of the University Student Union (USU) and parking. Daily parking permits are $5.00 and can be purchased from the yellow parking dispensers in each lot. Parking Structure 1 is recommended for this event.
