Clinical Mental Health Intern for U.S. VETS Long Beach Intervention Team
- Multidisciplinary Intervetion Team MIT pilot program
- Description: The Clinical Mental Health Intern will be part of the U.S.VETS Long Beach Intervention Team, a community-based multidisciplinary team that provides mental health, substance use, life skills, and housing stabilization services to veterans in the GPD Transitional Housing Program. This position is designed to offer clinical experience in mental health counseling, crisis intervention, and therapeutic support in a residential setting.
- Requirements: Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s-level Clinical Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Human Services or related program; Strong interpersonal and communication skills; Interest in working with military veterans and understanding the challenges of the veteran population; Ability to maintain confidentiality and practice in compliance with HIPAA and ethical guidelines
- Responsibilities:

- Provide individual and group counseling to veterans addressing mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and substance abuse.
- – Apply evidence-based therapeutic techniques including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
- – Conduct mental health assessments and contribute to the development of individualized treatment plans.
- – Support veterans in developing coping skills, managing stress, and enhancing life skills related to personal and emotional well-being.
- – Document clinical interventions, treatment progress, and outcomes
- – Collaborate with members of MIT, and case managers to ensure a holistic approach to veterans’ care.
- – Participate in weekly Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings, sharing case updates, insights, and progress with the broader team.
- – Assist in the development and facilitation of group therapy sessions on topics such as anger management, stress reduction, and substance use recovery.
4. Location: Campus- 2001 River Ave. Long Beach, CA 90810 (This position will be immersed in program where veterans are residing in Transitional Housing and in the campus community)
5. Duration: Rolling; Full Semester/Hours Available (rotating with school calendars)
6. Time: preferred hours withing M-F 10am-5pm range,

- (schedules can vary and accommodate school schedule- weekend work or after hours work also available once members are acclimated to the work)
- Group Supervision currently held weekly on Mondays at 2pm with in-person or virtual option
- Individual supervision will be TBD based on student schedule.

1. Description: A mental health organization that advances awareness, cultivating success and strengthening communities through integrated mental health services for children, youth, and families.
2. Requirements: Graduate students enrolled in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, and other related academic programs
3. Responsibilities: Opportunities to work with children ages 2-21 with a full range of DSM-5 diagnoses using evidenced-based practices, such as PCIT. Learn evidence-based modalities and provide treatment through individual therapy, family therapy, parent sessions, and group counseling.
