Alexandra Baird, Daily 49er Editor In Chief

The College of Liberal Arts congratulates Daily 49er Editor in Chief Alexandra Baird for winning the national first-place award for General News Reporting from the Society of Professional Journalists. Baird’s story “CSULB Student Officials Earn Third Highest Pay in CSU” addresses the Associated Students, Inc.’s salaries and perks at Cal State Long Beach as well as throughout the CSU system. “This story was a team effort led by an ambitious editorial staff,” Baird said. “We spent weeks digging through data and making dozens of phone calls…to shine light on issues that matter to our readers: the students.”

All first place winners will be recognized at the 2011 Excellence in Journalism conference, which will be held in New Orleans from September 25th-27th.
