PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Department of Asian and Asian American Studies at California State University, Long Beach, will offer a short-term study abroad program in Korea at Dankook University (July 12 – August 5, 2020). The objectives of the Summer Study Abroad Program in Korea are: (1) to provide CSULB students with affordable opportunities for international education; and (2) to help students improve their understanding of Korean language and culture. The academic program consists of four weeks of basic language and culture classes, as well as many content courses taught in English. Each class meets four days a week for two and a half hours a day. Students may register for one to two courses (3 units each) that are transferable to CSULB. Courses include: Korean Language I & II, Modern Korean History, East Asian Civilization, International Business, International Economics, International Tourism, Korean Art History, Korean Culture and Mass Media, People and Culture of Asia, and North Korean Politics, Introduction to Sociology, World Geography, American Culture, etc.. Optional cultural activities and field trips will be available for students to supplement academic coursework. Cultural activities include Korean Cooking, Korean Mask Making, Traditional Korean Dance & Music, Korean Movies, and Taekwondo.

Students do not have to know Korean to participate in this program. All content courses will be taught in English. Native speakers of English and students with native fluency in English, who wish to spend an additional three weeks in Korea and receive an airfare reimbursement (up to $1,000), can apply for the Global Village Internship Program to serve as English tutors (June 22 – July 9, 2020).
