2018-19 Study Abroad Program in Japan

Program Description

In cooperation with the Center for International Education, the Department of Asian and Asian American Studies at California State University, Long Beach, will offer a yearlong or one-semester study abroad program at Josai International University (JIU) in Togane City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. JIU is located about one hour from Tokyo, the capital of Japan. JIU offers shuttle busses between the campus and Narita International Airport (50 minutes), Tokyo Station (70 minutes), and several Japan Railroad stations.

JIU offers international students many content courses on Japan taught in English, as well as a variety of Japanese language courses appropriate for their proficiency levels. Through these courses specially designed for international students, JIU assists them in developing Japanese language skills and deeper understanding of Japanese culture and society.

JIU’s International Student Center offers activities and support, including a welcome for new international students, a lecture series, extracurricular activities and parties involving people in the local community, and information for students’ parents.

JIU will administer all student activities and monitor international students’ academic progress in order to assure a safe, productive and enjoyable experience in Japan. JIU will process all visa-related documents, manage housing, and monitor class attendance. With the consent of students, such information will be passed on to their families abroad.
