Annual African Studies Day Distinguished Speaker

Africana Studies Day 04-28-15

The Department of Africana Studies would like to invite you to attend our annual Africana Studies Day Forum which will be an Ethnic Studies Forum with a keynote lecture by Dr. Kenneth Monteiro, Dean, College of Ethnic Studies, San Francisco State University, titled “The Chancellor’s Task Force for the Advancement of Ethnic Studies: Reflections on its Rationale and Work” on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, 2:00–3:15pm, LH-150.

The forum will discuss the initiative by our department beginning two years ago to sustain and advance Africana Studies and ethnic studies as a whole at CSULB and in the CSU system; the strong support gained from a variety of sources; the resultant Chancellor’s statewide moratorium on any negative changes to ethnic studies; and the formation of a Task Force to deal with critical issues concerning ways and means of advancement composed of faculty, academic leaders, campus presidents, representatives from the statewide Ethnic Studies Council and students.
