Congratulations to Dr. Paul Scotton and team for a recent NSF grant!
Dr. Paul Scotton, CSULB Classics Professor and Director of the Lechaion Harbor and Settlement Land Project, together with his colleagues Lora Stevens-Landon, CSULB Earth Science Professor, and AJ White, CSULB Post-doctoral Researcher in Earth Science, were awarded a $500,000 grant through the National Science Foundation!
In their project, entitled “Expanding geoarchaeology opportunities for underrepresented students through Multiproxy Investigations of Human-Environmental Dynamics,” Drs. Stevens-Landon, Scotton, and White aim to increase participation in archaeological fieldwork for students from low-income backgrounds. In particular, they will train young archaeologists in new approaches in geochemical and geophysical techniques used on archaeological projects while removing financial obstacles to their participation.
This project is a wonderful example of the productive collaborations that can occur between the Humanities and STEM! Congratulations to this team for their exciting work and their efforts to expand the field of archaeology!
