Classics Learning Objectives
Classics majors should be able to:
- Demonstrate a reading knowledge of classical Latin or ancient Greek equivalent to three years of college study, with the ability to write and communicate both orally and aurally in simple sentences.
- Demonstrate knowledge of classical antiquity in several of the following areas: archaeology, art, drama, history, linguistics, literature, mythology, philosophy, political structures, religion, social structures, the interaction among ancient cultures, and the influence and relations between classical antiquity and subsequent cultures and civilizations, particularly in the west.
- Demonstrate an ability to analyze complex materials and to present the analysis in a manner that can be understood by others.
- Demonstrate an ability to write clearly, concisely, and well.
