Donate to the Frank Gossette Award!

The Frank Gossette scholarship was established to honor the life-long work and commitment of Dr. Frank Gossette to the academic and professional advancement of CSULB Geography graduate students. Dr. Gossette served as a Lecturer, Associate Professor, and then Full Professor of Geography from 1985 to 2009. He earned his B.A. (Sociology) and M.A. (Asian Studies) degrees from the University of Oregon in 1971 and 1973 respectively, and his Ph.D. in Geography in 1980. His dissertation, titled, “Social Ecology in a Contemporary Chinese City: Tiachung, Taiwan” utilized some of the most cutting edge methodological approaches in the field of Geography. After completing his degree at UCLA, Dr. Gossette worked as a professor at Northwestern University and the University of Delaware before joining the Department of Geography at California State University, Long Beach. Dr. Gossette is best known at CSULB for his contributions to the Department’s growing geospatial technologies courses and research. Through numerous Contracts and Grants with local private and public agencies, he created internships in applied research employing scores of undergraduate and graduate students.

The award will sponsor student research costs associated with their master’s graduate thesis project.
