Dr. Ali Igmen has been awarded an International Public Service Award from the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA) in University of Pittsburgh in recognition of his service and mentorship of Central Eurasian young scholars.
Dr. Jeff Blutinger was honored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Long Beach and West Orange County for his work with Hillel at its annual “Above and Beyond” event honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to the Jewish community
Dr. Caitlin Murdock has been named Honorary Research Associate at the Graduate School of East and Southeast European Studies at the University of Regensburg
Professor Takeuchi wins prestigious NEH Award to research Japanese feminists.
Michiko Takeuchi, Associate Professor of History, has won an NEH Award to conduct research on her book, “Early Coalitions Between Japanese and American Feminists, from World War I to the U.S. Occupation of Japan.” She examines the women’s movements in the U.S. and Japan in the first half of the twentieth century. According to History Department Chair David Shafer, “NEH fellowships are very competitive and Dr. Takeuchi’s selection for the NEH Fellowship for Advanced Research on Japan is testament to the importance of her work.” Takeuchi earned her B.A. and M.A. in International Studies at CSULB. She said she felt “thrilled and overjoyed” by the award, stating “I hope this recognition inspires our students.”

Kathryn Reuter, CSULB History B.A. Alumna, has been accepted at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Kathryn Reuter, CSULB History B.A. Alumna, will continue her studies in the fall at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a Chancellor’s Graduate Student Award and a Teaching Assistantship that will provide a stipend and full tuition remission. She was admitted into their 3-year coordinated degree program and will be earning a M.A. in History and a Masters of Library and Information Science.

The 2018 Department of History End-of-Year Celebration was an applause-filled success!
The History Department would like to extend a warm thank you to all of the banquet attendees for sharing in our end-of-year celebration with us this past Saturday evening. We also extend gratitude to the Celebration Committee, as well as volunteers from the HGSA and HSA for their service.
