JPR Equipment Loan Program

Return to JPR Technology Home

Updated Spring 2024:  The Department of Journalism & Public Relations offers a robust inventory of digital tools to all JPR students for use in completing their coursework and other assigned JPR projects.  Our inventory consists of professional quality equipment and is always in high demand by our students (over 400 checkouts per semester and growing).  The availability and security of this equipment is vital to our student’s success.

In-Person Checkout

Equipment checkout is available IN-PERSON in LA4-106 on Monday through Thursday from 9:00AM to 5:00PM and we are closed from 1:00PM to 2:00PM.  Friday morning checkouts are available by special request only.  Equipment can be dropped off or picked up during these days and times.

JPR Equipment Loan Program Uses the JPR Lockers!

In addition to in-person checkout, we are able to distribute and accept returns on some items via the JPR Lockers.  For more information about the JPR Locker checkout system, please contact Dan Olsen in the department office.

JPR Equipment Checkout Policy

Effective immediately, all students checking out equipment are required to electronically sign an Equipment Release and Liability form once per semester.

Equipment Checkout Procedures (Spring 2024)

STEP 1:  Sign your Equipment Release and Liability Form  (only once per semester!)

STEP 2:  Know your Responsibilities

Students are responsible for sanitizing the equipment according to posted guidelines before using it and before they return it.  It is our collective responsibility to keep the equipment sanitized and keep each other safe.  More information about equipment and personal safety is on our Mindful Practices for Working in the Field document.

All equipment is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Please plan your project work accordingly.  All equipment is expected to be returned in the same working condition it was received, and all batteries charged as a courtesy to the next student.

Students are responsible for providing their own SD cards and storage media.  SD cards are available at the University Bookstore and satellite stores on campus.  Pro Tip:  The ZOOM Audio Recorders only like SD cards that are 8GB or smaller.

All of our equipment available for checkout is available for a maximum of overnight per checkout and weekends beginning Thursday and returning Monday.  That means checkout today and return it the following day.  Earlier returns are highly recommended so that we are able to keep the equipment circulating.  Late returns disrupt the equity and flow of the equipment.  Please be mindful of your equipment return deadlines.  They are provided with your return instructions.

STEP 3:  Check out Equipment in LA4-106 (Main Department Office)
