Bio: My interests are in language documentation, with a particular interest in historical linguistics, semantics (pragmatics) and syntax. I was drawn into linguistics through Metaphors We Live By (George Lakoff and Mark Johnson) and am interested in how cultural narratives change over time, (as well as understanding their significance in philosophical, cultural, and/or social systems.)

My language interests are in documenting endangered languages with the inclusion of the community’s own language work, perspectives and knowledge, where I have experience in working on/with North Native American languages (Pahka’anil, Hocąk, and Luiseño), and African languages (Nobiin and with familiarity in continent´s language contact situation and typology.)

With this hope, my goal would be to provide a more even account of these communities’ insights in the research literature and media (involving their voices and scholarship where possible and approved) in order to understand the extent of human existence as a whole with the inclusion of minorized communities that have been displaced by human led phenomena as globalization, colonialization, and environmental change (such as urbanization and global warming.)

On the side of all this, I’m a theater/music nerd that enjoys dance and improv!

Education: Associate’s in Spanish from Saddleback College
Bachelor of Art in Linguistics from California State University of Long Beach
