BQE Text FA20

November 14, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

This is a reminder that the Text portion of the Basic Qualifying Exam (BQE) will be held on Saturday November 14th from 1:00pm–4:00pm.

Registration is required. If you have not already RSVP’s for the exam, please reread the registration e-mail and respond to Dr. Wright so that he knows whom to expect and so that you do not get locked out of the exam.

As the pandemic is plaguing the nation now more than ever, the university’s response is such that the exam will have to be held virtually via zoom (i.e., not in the Library’s Spidell room per usual). Consequently, please get settled and centered before the exam, and arrive early as needed. Dr. Wright will be available to field questions as early as 12:30pm.

Once more, the two texts for this fall semester are:

Text 1: Linda Zagzebski (1994). ‘The Inescapability of Gettier Problems’. Philosophical Quarterly, 44(174): 65–73.
Text 2: Peter Winch (1964). ‘Understanding a Primitive Society’. American Philosophical Quarterly, 1(4): 307–324.

Students are responsible for retrieving the texts. (For certain pedagogical reasons, the Graduate Committee deliberately does not post them anywhere. Both articles are easily available, e.g., via the CSULB library, BeachReach, and so forth.) If you have questions, please consult the BQE orientation handout. If further assistance is needed, please speak with Drs. Laskowski or Wright.
