PHIL404: Artificial Intelligence and Ethics

This course will address ethical issues that arise with the development and deployment of AI systems, including systems used by (and targeted at) individuals, institutions, and societies. Potential topics include representation, fairness, transparency, surveillance and privacy, governance, de-skilling, economics, AI relationships, the alignment problem, AGI and existential risk, and AI consciousness and sentience. Readings will be drawn from ethics, economics, journalism, philosophy of technology, philosophy of mind, and speculative fiction.
