PHIL422/522: Aristotle

Dr. Max Rosenkrantz
Tuesdays & Thursdays  ·  3:30–4:45pm  ·  LA5–149

We will read selectively in Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, with an emphasis on his philosophy of action, specifically, virtuous action and the type of knowledge it expresses (phronesis). We’ll also read works by 20th century philosophers (Ryle, Anscombe, Davidson, McDowell, … maybe even Heidegger) that shed light on the issues Aristotle discusses.
