This course will concern the metaphysical, epistemological, psychological, linguistic, and ethical nature of sex, gender, and sexual orientation in the tradition of Western, Analytic Philosophy. What is gender? What is it to have a sexual orientation? How do we know our own gender or sexual orientation? How do we manage to talk and think about these topics at all? Are there sex and gender terms that we ought to use? These are some of the questions that will be explored. Close engagement of the assigned texts will be expected from students along with regular participation in class.
