Political Science Department Statement on Racism, Injustice, and Protest

The Political Science Department at CSULB condemns police brutality, and other economic and social injustices against people and communities of color, especially the Black community. Moreover, we support the right to protest as an important democratic tool to address these injustices. Therefore, we decry violent attempts to silence and delegitimize peaceful protest. We reaffirm our commitment to inclusive teaching, committed scholarship, and community and professional service that contribute to a democratic society that ensures an equal voice and equal opportunity for all. We seek to understand and overcome the structural roots of all forms of racism, sexism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, religious and gendered hatred and discrimination. Most important, we are committed to helping our students understand our society’s structural injustices and to empowering them to bring about democratic change.
