Postgraduate Studies and Related Experiences:
After graduating from CSULB, I moved to France for two years to guest lecture at the Université de Rouen. Although the job was highly challenging, most especially due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I do not regret it one bit and eagerly recommend it to anyone considering it!
As of now, I am currently the Social Media Marketing Manager for the Alliance Française Silicon Valley, and future Sales Associate for Le Labo Fragrances. Additionally, I am working on an upcoming small business project called “Bisou Bougie,” which I am excited to launch by next year!
How did your studies in language and culture prepare you for your current job?
I firmly believe that to learn a language is to adopt a worldview; and being mentored by such diverse scholars in both the IST and RGRLL departments has not only equipped me professionally but has also prepared me to face cross-cultural challenges in and outside of the workplace.
Do you have any advice for students considering language and culture study?
For anyone considering language and culture study, my advice to you is to DO IT — unhesitatingly and embracingly. All of the professional opportunities I’ve ever had are thanks to the multilingual and transcultural profile I started at CSULB. Being able to converse in more than one language means increasing your networking opportunities, developing your transcultural competence, and discovering new ways to view and better the world!
