Postgraduate Study and Related Experiences:

I studied abroad in Lima, Peru in 2015 with the Benjamin A. Gilman scholarship (I highly recommend this scholarship, it paid for everything!). I then continued at CSULB and received my M.A. in Spanish in 2018. I then left to teach English for a year in Spain with the Auxiliares de Conversación program. When I came back from Spain, I had some difficulty finding work right away but I was able to adjunct part-time at Compton College. Last January, I was hired as a long-term substitute teacher at Campbell Hall Episcopal in Studio City. I am now a full-time faculty member at Campbell Hall!

How did your studies in language and culture prepare you for your current job?

Obviously, without my studies with RGRLL, I could not have become a world languages teacher. However, beyond the practical skills I received enabling me to teach, my time at CSULB has opened opportunities that I would not have had otherwise. I have formed life-long friendships with classmates and faculty. I have been able to travel and form deep connections with cultures and peoples across the globe. My worldview has changed as I have been able to truly engage with people outside of the United States and fully interact with Spanish-speakers in the U.S.
