What is Life Design?

Life design is an approach to future planning that provides people a toolkit of mindsets and methods to build one’s way toward a life and career.  This includes encouraging and enabling students to try things and test out ideas, consider the possibility of multiple paths, and explore options such as internships and service learning that can give them good information about their future professional life.

Our CSULB version of life design is also tied to the idea that students can serve their communities in a variety of ways—so we center social impact work in our programs to ensure that students have equitable access to the opportunities they need to define and accomplish their goals.

We also aim to be responsive to the needs of our CSULB students—many of whom are first generation and/or students of color.  We want to be responsive to our CSULB campus– a diverse, urban, public university.   DYLB also contributes to students working to find their purpose amidst the ongoing public health crisis and a time of increased awareness and responsiveness to systematic racial and other inequities.
