25th Annual Bob Rodgers Cherishing the Children Gift Drive
December 7, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
CSULB Staff Council has officially launched the 25th Annual Bob Rodgers Cherishing the Children Gift Drive in conjunction with the Office of the President and Division of Academic Affairs to benefit local foster children and youth through the Long Beach area office of the LA County Department of Children and Family Services. Donations are now being collected across campus and The Bookstore (see attached flyer for details). We ask faculty, staff, and students to donate and/or seek donations from family and friends!
Campus departments/units who would like to be an official toy box collection location can place a decorative box in their areas and display the 2022 Cherishing the Children and 2022 Cherishing the Children Box Location flyers attached. Staff Council has a few wrapped boxes available on a first come first serve basis, departments/units may choose to make their own toy collection box or show their creative side by partaking in the Toy Box Decorating Contest (rules attached). If your department/unit is an official toy box collection location, please contact the event organizers listed below with your name, office location and contact information. Volunteers will come by on November 16th, December 1st, and December 6th to pick up the unwrapped toys that have been collected.
The gift drive will culminate with an on-campus event on Wednesday December 7th 3-6pm at The Pointe. The event has been a tradition which was last held on campus in 2019 due to the pandemic. We are excited to see it return to campus that brings local foster children & youth along with their caregivers to partake in a fun evening of games, food, drinks, prizes, music, and the distribution of gifts by Santa and Mrs. Claus.
In keeping with tradition, we will continue to collect unwrapped toys through Friday December 16th for the Long Beach Sparks of Love run by the Long Beach Fire Department (please no plush toys as they present a fire hazard).
If you should have any questions or would like to volunteer, please contact the event organizers Kristin Bonetati (Kristin.Bonetati@csulb.edu), Christina Salvador (Christina.Salvador@csulb.edu) and Alessandro Russo (Alessandro.Russo@csulb.edu).
