A conversation with: Brenda Navarro

April 23 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

The Department of Romance, German, Russian Languages and Literatures  at California State University, Long Beach presents:

A conversation with: Brenda Navarro

Join us for a conversation with Mexican writer Brenda Navarro (1982) about her award-winning novel, Empty Houses (Sexto Piso 2019; Daunt Books, 2021), which was recently translated into English by Sophie Hughes.

Brenda Navarro studied Sociology and Feminist Economics at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and has a Masters in Gender Studies from the University of Barcelona. In 2016, she created Enjambre Literario, a project focused on publishing women writers. She co-organizes Escrituras y cuidados, an event that congregates Mexican writers to reflect on the conditions in which women write, think and work. Navarro is also part of Ellas Cuidan, a collective that seeks to make visible that women –often overburdened with caretaking duties— have to endure a triple work-shift when completing creative work. She coordinates Encuentros y desencuentros de la lengua española y de las literaturas hispánicas, a certificate program organized by the Cátedra Extraordinaria Carlos Fuentes and the CEM-UNAM España. Navarro writes about women’s labor, women’s access to culture, digital rights and humanities, and migration. She lives in Madrid, Spain.

Conversation will be in Spanish with interpretation to English available. Contact Daniela Suárez (Daniela.suarez@csulb.edu) for more information.
