Alea Iacta IV — Representations of Women in Classic (Ancient History) and Archeology Video Games

Please join us on April 25th at 10 am in the Anatol Center or on Zoom (https://csulb.zoom.us/j/86908748043) for a roundtable talk with Drs. Cook and Draycott, editors of “Women in Classical Video Games,” about the popularity of classical video games, their role in the classroom, the relationship between films and games about the ancient world, and women’s history vis-a-vis historical accuracy. 

Dr. Katherine Cook Associate Lecturer in Classics at the University of St Andrews, UK. Her work centers on on gender and its representation in the ancient world and classical receptions. Her main interests lie in gender and language in Greek Tragedy, and the reception of the ancient world in video games. Dr. Jane Draycott, University of Glasgow, is also interested in the depiction of the ancient world in computer games, and was awarded a University of Glasgow ArtsLab Cross-College Research Themes Scheme Grant to fund the ‘History and Archaeology in Games and Gaming’ symposium. She is currently working on setting up an international research network to bring together academics interested in the depiction of history and archaeology in computer games with members of the games industry.
