October 4, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

RGRLL, CWL, ENGL, and Scholarly Intersections are co-sponsoring “Una visión general de la poesía de la temprana edad moderna española: del Renacimiento al Barroco” (“An overview of the poetry of the Spanish early modern period: from the Renaissance to the Baroque”) by Dr. Carlos Gutiérrez on 10/4, 4-5:30pm via Zoom.

This intellectual event, envisioned more as a dialogue than a lecture, is intended for students interested in learning about concepts and themes in 16th and 17th century Spanish poetry. It also will include an opportunity for poem analysis and discussion. Students who are at least receptively bilingual are welcome.

CARLOS M. GUTIÉRREZ is Professor of Spanish and the Director of U of Cincinnati Madrid Summer Program. His research focuses on the early modern Spanish literary field and authorial self-fashioning. His publications include research and creative writing, including books and editions such as La recepción de Quevedo (1645-2010), (U de Navarra, 2011); La red ciega (Lima: Hipocampo, 2008; 2nd ed., NY: Digitalia, 2011; short stories); La espada, el rayo, y la pluma: Quevedo y los campos literario y de poder (Purdue UP, 2005); Dejémonos de cuentos (Valladolid, 1994; short stories); as well as book chapters, reviews/articles in journals published on both sides of the Atlantic.
