World Anthropology Day 2024 (3/14) – Please RSVP if interested in participating

March 14 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

The Anthropology Department is organizing our latest in-person World Anthropology Day, on Thursday, March 14th, 2024, from 10:00am to 2:00pm, at both the Speaker’s Platform area and the iSpace 360 theater in the University Library.  This year’s theme is “Humanity in New Horizons,” and several featured activities will explore how anthropologists seek to understand (and teach about) human behavior, language and physiology in the emergent social spaces created by recent technologies like social media, virtual worlds, and artificial intelligence.

So far, the activities are:

  • Scavenger hunt (involving career info, film titles, poster topics, VR experiences, etc).  Please consider offering your students extra credit for completed, stamped scavenger hunt forms.
  • Program and Major Information booths
  • Student Research Poster Session (** Dr. Jeanelle Uy will be leading a poster workshop for students on Tuesday, March 5th at 4:00 in LA5-154***).
  • Student Film Festival
  • VR Experiences on the lawn
  • VR Films in the iSpace 360 Theater (library downstairs) – from 12:30 to 2:00 only.
  • Careers in Anthropology “Game” (similar to a personality quiz) with “Career Cards” as a Takeaway
  • Anthropology Podcast Booth
  • Other activities, as they are added.

***Students are also welcome to participate in the poster session.  Please contact me for scheduling information, as it becomes available.

The locations will be the upper quad by the Speaker’s Platform, and also the Kline Innovation Space in the basement of the library.  Please take a minute to let us know if you would like to participate.  We welcome any organization, department or program that may want to celebrate with us.
