Guest Lecture: Simona Montanari’s "Language Transfer in the Case of Cognate Languages — Evidence from Developing Trilingual Children"

November 2, 2011

Simona Montanari, California State University, Los Angeles, will focus on how language skills transfer from one language to another in the case of topologically related languages. Montanari will present evidence from her case study of simultaneous trilingual development involving Tagalog, Spanish, and English. She will show how language learning is facilitated when the languages involved are lexically or typologically related (as with Tagalog/Spanish and Italian/Spanish).
