February 22, 2012Dr. Lei Jiang is an Associate Professor in the College of Foreign Studies at Northeastern University in China. She is a visiting scholar in CSULB’s Department of Linguistics.
Abstract:
This talk reports on a framework for designing reading-to-write tasks to evaluate Chinese college students’ English writing ability. A large-scale study was conducted to verify reliability and validity of the framework applied to different levels of college students in China. Discourse-based comparative analyses were made to find the similarities and differences of candidates’ performance in a writing-only task and a reading-to-write task. The study intended to promote a change in college English writing assessment and to provide references and practical implications to college English teachers in China.
