NATB Committees

Not Alone at the Beach: Levels of Involvement

Level 1: Notification List

Select this option if you would like to be included on a list of faculty who will be notified about Not Alone at the Beach programming. We expect to send out emails multiple times per semester with information about our programming and requests to post flyers on Beachboard/Canvas.

Level 2: Not Alone at the Beach Ambassador

Select this option if you would like to be a Not Alone at the Beach Ambassador for your department. We are looking for one person per department who agrees to disseminate information about Not Alone at the Beach programming to faculty and students in their department. This may involve forwarding emails and flyers to your faculty listserve with encouragement to post this information on Beachboard/Canvas. This may also involve forwarding emails and flyers to student listserves and/or student organizations in your department.

Level 3: Coordinated Community Response Team

Select this level if you are interested in attending Coordinated Community Response Team meetings. The Coordinated Community Response Team meets once per semester for approximately 1.5 hours. This is an opportunity for representatives from key units on campus involved with the campus response to sexual assault to inform one another of ongoing activities. CCRT members include representatives from the Title IX office, Campus Police, Student Affairs, Housing, Counseling Services, Health Services, and Not Alone at the Beach. The Coordinated Community Response Team also includes community partners from local rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters, and trauma centers who likewise update the team on their services. While no actual planning takes place during these meetings, attending the CCRT meetings is a good way to stay abreast of sexual assault-related policies, practices, and programming on campus. Anyone is welcome to attend.

Level 4: Committee Membership

Select this option if you are interested in becoming a committee member. Committee members will be expected to attend one committee meeting per month plus one large team meeting per month. Possible committees include: 1) the Programming and Outreach Committee; 2) the Development Steering Committee; or 3) the Curriculum and Training Committee.

Programming and Outreach Committee

The Programming and Outreach Committee will be in charged of identifying, designing, and overseeing prevention programming and outreach efforts on the CSULB campus. For prevention programming, activities may include identifying gaps in prevention programming on the CSULB campus, researching evidence-based programs that CSULB may want to consider adopting, developing original prevention programs to fill unique needs that are not effectively addressed in existing programs, coordinating with key stakeholders on and off campus to implement prevention programs, providing training and guidance to student interns or staff who implement programs, and/or evaluating prevention programs being implemented on campus. Outreach activities include developing and overseeing efforts to educate the campus community about NATB activities and programs. Committee members will meet at least once a month as a sub-committee and at least once a month with the larger Not Alone at the Beach team (for a total of 2 meetings per month).

Development Steering Committee

The Development Steering Committee will be in charge of fundraising for Not Alone at the Beach. Activities may include working with the CLA Development Office to identify and solidify potential donors, developing and coordinating with an external Fundraising Advisory Board to solicit potential donors, developing materials to be used in fundraising activities, giving presentations to community organizations who might be interested in supporting Not Alone at the Beach activities, working with the CLA Development Office to write and manage philanthropy grants, and/or working with the CSULB office of Research and Economic Development to write and manage research grants. Committee members will meet at least once a month as a sub-committee and at least once a month with the larger Not Alone at the Beach team (for a total of 2 meetings per month).

Curriculum and Training Committee

The Curriculum and Training Committee will be in charge of developing resources for and conducting training with faculty on the CSULB campus. Activities may include identifying CSULB courses that include (or could include) information about sexual assault, developing a toolkit of course materials about sexual assault that faculty could incorporate into their courses, creating and running faculty trainings about incorporating information about sexual assault into their courses, and/or creating and running faculty trainings on mandatory reporting and responding to student disclosures in the classroom. Committee members will meet at least once a month as a sub-committee and at least once a month with the larger Not Alone at the Beach team (for a total of 2 meetings per month).
