LOWER DIVISION (22 units). 

Take all the following courses:       

  • ASLD 101: American Sign Language 1 (4)
  • ASLD 102: American Sign Language 2 (4)
  • LING/ANTH 170: Introduction to Linguistics (3)
  • ASLD 124: American Deaf Cultures (3)
  • ASLD 201: American Sign Language 3 (4)
  • ASLD 202: American Sign Language 4 (4)

UPPER DIVISION (28 units). 

Take all the following courses:

  • ASLD 305: American Sign Language 5 (4)
  • ASLD 306: American Sign Language Linguistics (3)
  • ASLD 324: Critical Deaf & Disability Studies (3)* new course
  • LING 325: Modern English Grammar (3)
  • ASLD 424: Global Deaf Culture and Languages (3)
  • ASLD 456: Sign Language Sociolinguistics (3)

Take 3 Courses out of the following:

  • ASLD 151: Mexican Sign Language (4)
  • ASLD 490/499: Directed Study in ASLD (1-6)
  • LING 301: Introduction to Research Methods (3)
  • LING/ANTH 413: Language and Culture
  • LING 421: Syntax (3)
  • LING 422: Discourse Analysis (3)
  • LING 423: Semantics (3)
  • LING 426: History of English (3)
  • LING 460: TESOL composition (3)
  • LING 470/ANTH 475: Language and Gender in Cross-Cultural Perspective (3)
  • LING 472: Language and Social Justice (writing intensive capstone)
  • LING 477: Language Socialization (3)

 Admission Requirements:         

ASLD 101 (American Sign Language 1), and ASLD 102 (American Sign Language 2) with a grade of C or better

Minors you may want to add if you are an ASLD major:

  • Linguistics- TESOL
  • Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, etc. 
  • Translation- under RGRLL
