Message From Program Director Dr. Christine Whitcraft

cwhitcraft“My own education was highly interdisciplinary as both an undergraduate Biology major with an Environmental Science concentration and as a graduate student in a Marine Biodiversity and Conservation program. Having a program like ES&P here at CSULB is a great opportunity for students and for faculty like me who are interested in conservation of our natural world through interdisciplinary collaboration. I am really looking forward to working with our enthusiastic students and faculty.”

Dr. Christine Whitcraft is currently an associate professor in the Biology Department and Director of Environmental Science and Policy at CSU Long Beach. She earned her B.A. in Biology from Williams College in Massachusetts and her Ph.D. in Biological Oceanography from Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego. Her main research interest is in the functioning of coastal wetlands and estuarine communities from a multi-disciplinary perspective including plant, algae, and benthic invertebrate biodiversity, food web structure, physical environmental parameters, and recently economic perspectives. She teaches a range of ecology classes within the department including Wetland Ecology, Plant Ecology, and Conservation Biology.
