Welcome from the Directors

Welcome from the Directors

We are excited to offer the Cold War Home Front workshop to teachers across the nation. As long-term professional development providers, we have extensive experience offering training to in-service history teachers that integrates rich content knowledge and rigorous discipline-based pedagogy. We have worked very hard to craft a program with the ideal combination of visits to historic sites, lectures, and discussion about readings. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. We hope you’ll choose to apply for this program.

neumann headshotAs Director of the History Project, I provide professional development to K-12 teachers in history-social science content through cooperation with university history faculty. In this capacity, I have organized and led workshops through organizations including the Library of Congress, the US Department of Education, the California Council on the Humanities, the California Department of Education, and other agencies. I have presented at over two dozen state and national conferences, published a dozen articles on history education, and written history curriculum materials for the California Department of Education, Los Angeles County Office of Education, the College Board, and Bedford/St. Martin’s Press. Formerly an award-winning high school teacher for over ten years, I have been a reader of Advanced Placement (AP) History exams for a decade and have written multiple-choice questions for the AP World History exam on several occasions. I am on the editorial board of The History Teacher, the journal of the Society for History Education. I taught History for Social Science Teachers and other courses at California State University for seven years.
