Carl Lipo (Anthropology) published an article in Proceedings of the National Academy titled “High-precision radiocarbon dating shows recent and rapid initial colonization of East Polynesia” co-authored with Janet M. Wilmshursta (Lincoln University, New Zealand), Terry L. Hunt (University of Hawai’i-Manoa), and Atholl J. Anderson (Australian National University). The paper has dramatic consequences for the understanding of the colonization of the Pacific, radically changing the story of the settling of Hawaii, Tahiti, New Zealand, and Easter Island.
