Recruiting McNair Scholars 2020-2021

October 15, 2020

The Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Program is recruiting 12 McNair Scholars this application cycle. We ask for your support in sharing this opportunity with your students and colleagues.  I have attached the program application, McNair flyers and a calendar with information sessions. The application is due Monday, January 25, 2021. Please encourage students and colleagues to visit our website to learn more about the McNair Scholars Program and the work of our alumni/current scholars.

We would like to share some current testimonials from our McNair Scholars to illustrate the impact that our program has had on CSULB Students.

“McNair is the first real hands, close relationship mentoring program I’ve been in, I am pretty shy and hesitant to ask for help. Do not be afraid to go to McNair for help for anything. Don’t let the imposter syndrome inhibit you from growth and success!”

“I feel very blessed to be given the opportunities McNair has provided me with. Thank you for providing a safe space in a much-needed time and for all the effort you have all put in to make this possible in such weird circumstances. Thank you for your genuine concern for our wellbeing and making us all feel heard and understood. It doesn’t go unnoticed and I am very grateful!! Research and grad school feels so much more attainable and possible now.”

“McNair has provided numerous resources in the forms of finance, knowledge, mental health support, and a community of relatable people. In McNair workshops, we have very honest conversations about our struggles as underrepresented or marginalized populations, specifically in higher education. The validation and reassurance I receive in those workshops or just in passing conversation with directors and fellow scholars, has encouraged me to have those tough conversations in all academic environments. I am more confident, and that enriched many other aspects my life and helped clarify my goals. Academia can be intimidating but knowledge is power and powerful people will not backdown easily. McNair is constantly reinforcing powerful people so that we can advocate for ourselves and others.”

We look forward to your referrals and hearing back from you. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions, comments or concerns. We really appreciate your support. Thank you!
