Fourth Annual Helena María Viramontes Lecture in Latina/o Literature
Aracelis Girmay was the featured poet for the Fourth Annual Helena María Viramontes Lecture, which was held at the University Theatre on Thursday, April 12, 2018, 6:30-8:30pm.
Girmay is the author of three award-winning poetry collections–The Black Maria (2016), Kingdom Animalia (2011), and Teeth (2007)–as well as the collage-based picture book changing,changing (2005). Her work takes up a wide range of topics, including genocide, war, white supremacy, police brutality, migration, borders, resistance, Latinidad, and Blackness.
