“Lemuria to Wakanda: Speculative Cartography from the Deep”

Professor Prasad’s talk will explore how speculative non-fiction can help us recognize and disrupt the colorism and anti-blackness underpinning the growth of populist movements in the United States and in South Asia.

 

Pavithra Prasad is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at California State University, Northridge. She holds a Ph.D. in Performance Studies from Northwestern University and works as both an artist and scholar. Professor Prasad’s research uses critical ethnography, performance, and postcolonial theory to explore themes of futurism, race, and gender in the context of globalization. She has published in Text and Performance Quarterly, Departures in Critical Qualitative Research, Ecumenica, and Critical Arts.
