Multiple Internship Positions

Multiple Internship Positions Including…

  • Community Development & Planning Intern: Assist the director in compiling and organizing data and conducting analysis intended to inform the shaping of future policies, and which otherwise assist in more effective decision making for KYCC’s Community Development and Planning Program. The ideal candidate should be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university program with some coursework in planning and/or related fields.
  • Clinical Intern (Masters Level): Currently enrolled masters-level clinical interns will provide supervised one-on-one and/or group mental health services.  Candidates must be Spanish or Korean bilingual. 
  • Koreatown Storytelling Project Intern: KYCC’s Koreatown Storytelling Program is an intergenerational, multilingual and multiethnic oral history and digital media program that teaches ethnographic and storytelling techniques to high school students and elders to investigate cultural practices and racial, economic and health inequities in our community. Interns will lead communication with youth journalists, help facilitate workshops, edit text and audio/video of oral histories. 
    • Community Research and Program Evaluation Intern: This internship program will focus on developing a comprehensive Community Profile.  Areas of focus include complying, analyzing and reporting on various demographic trends happening in Los Angeles’ Koreatown and the neighboring neighborhoods. The ideal candidate should be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university program with an interest in public policy, public administration, monitoring and evaluation, nonprofit management, or other relevant disciplines.
    • Development Intern (Special Events): The intern will primarily work hands-on in the planning of and execution of KYCC’s special events which include our annual golf tournament, concert and holiday carnival.  Additional duties include supporting our merch, in-kind donation and volunteer programs.  This position is ideal for candidates who are interested in understanding the event planning, fundraising, and development side of nonprofit organizations at a relatively large and well-established agency.
    • Urban Forestry Intern: This internship focuses on the operational and programmatic side of urban forestry, supporting the implementation and management of one of the largest tree planting organizations in the city of Los Angeles in one of the least green parts of the city.  Duties include researching funding opportunities, assisting with proposal and grant preparation, and recording operational data.  Fieldwork for tree management plans and tree inventory is also included.  The ideal candidate should be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university program with an interest in the environment, public administration, nonprofit management, or other relevant disciplines.

CSULB Speech and Language Clinic

The CSULB Speech and Language Clinic is a teaching clinic that provides diagnostic and therapeutic services free of cost to children and adults who present with speech, language, and/or communication disorders under the supervision of certified and licensed speech-language pathologists. Clinic services are provided to the Long Beach community and are free of cost. Our client population is diverse and speaks many languages, so we recruit interpreter interns each semester to interpret between clients and graduate student clinicians in order to ensure culturally and linguistically responsive services. The languages we need change each semester and throughout each semester, based on our client and student population. Description:
PICK6 Flag Football SoCal is the fastest growing and volunteer based educational non-profit in the area. Our
league is for boys and girls (PreK – 8
th grade) & All girls 12U – High School in San Pedro and surroundings areas
in Southern California. Players also learn about careers other than sports players, also to develop their
character through enforcing ethical sportsmanship, and most importantly, to be physically active for at least 60
minutes each day while choosing healthy food options – all through the flag football experience.
Social Media requirements: Should have strong communication skills, creativity, and understanding of
different social media platforms. They should be familiar with creating engaging content, tracking analytics,
and developing social media strategies. Basic skills in graphic design, photography or video editing could be
beneficial.
Internship Training
• Gain knowledge of youth flag football rules and the players
• How to improve fan experience, highlight player performance, and understanding the sports
industry
• How to use social media during games to draw more attention and excitement to our league
Intern Roles/Responsibilities
• Create Reels, Videos, Stories and Posts using company owned collateral; use music that appeals to
the target audience (youth athletes, parents and other sports leagues)
• Posting content relative to the business in order to get new followers and new players to register
for our league
• Ability to maintain an active social media presence to build our brand and solicit original story ideas
• Post 2-3 times weekly in the off season (Fall)
• Post using best practices for algorithm maximization on Instagram & TikTok
• Payment: Stipend based on YTD funding; maximum of $500

Ethnographic Curation and NAGPRA

Once ethnographic collections are gathered from living communities, what are the best practices to ensure that they are properly cared for, handled following cultural protocols? How can they be made available to the public and the communities from which they came? During this internship, you will obtain hands-on, real-world experience working with anthropologists on ethnographic collections collected from California, the United States and around the world by CSULB. You will learn the history of the collections and how to inventory, curate, analyze, and photograph the collections. Further, you will learn about the Native American Graves Protection Act (NAGPRA) and California NAGPRA (CalNAGPRA) and how these laws affect CSULB’s ethnographic collections.. Work will take place on the CSULB campus. Field Trips to local museums may also be taken.

 

Requirements: Interns getting credit must attend every class, for a total of 90 hours of hands-on training and research. Capstone project. Each intern will complete a research project on an object encountered during the internship.

 

Duration: Wednesday from June 12 to August 14, 2024
