Students in the Beach EDGE Communication Studies program will complete the requirements for both the B.A. and M.A. in Communication Studies.  Beach EDGE students in Communication Studies may double-count 9-M.A. electives towards both their B.A. and M.A. degrees.

After the first four years (3 semesters of Beach EDGE Program participation), students will have accumulated 120 units toward their BA. Nine of those units will be MA-Level courses that will count both toward their BA requirements of 120 units and the major required units.

A minimum of thirty hours of graduate work in Communication Studies distributed as follows:

  • COMM 541 and 546 (6 units) preferably completed in the first semester of graduate study and prior to advancement to candidacy.
  • COMM 640 and 646 (6 units) preferably completed in the second semester of graduate study and prior to advancement to candidacy.
  • 18 units of graduate level electives or 15 units of electives plus 3 thesis units
