Jewish Studies Program: Spring Speaker

The last Jewish Studies speaker of the semester will be Dr. Saba Soomekh.  Speaking at the Alpert JCC (3801 E. Willow St.) on May 4th, at 7:30 pm, her topic is “How are Persian Jews Reshaping Southern California?”

Dr. Soomekh received her Ph.D. from UC Santa Barbara and is a professor of theology at Loyola Marymount University.  She specializes in Iranian and Russian Jewish communities in Iran, Russia, and Southern California.  Her talk will examine the changing role of Persian Jews in Southern California, and their growing activism in both global as well as local politics.

As always, Jewish Studies talks are free and open to the public.
