June 21, 2010

Dean Gerry Riposa and The College of Liberal Arts are proud to recognize Kevin A. Johnson, Ph.D., Communication Studies, as a NAACP 2010 “Men of the Year” Honoree

The “Men of the Year” honorees are designated as people who are “significant in helping to shape the city of Long Beach.” They are people who “are well-respected, devoted men who interact in a positive manner on family, spiritual, community, and civic bases.” Honorees are selected for “not only being there for friends and family but also for the community of Long Beach.” The NAACP 2010 Men of the Year are individually great role models. On June 13, 2010 Dr. Johnson received a State of California Senate Certificate of Recognition in honor of his recognition by the Long Beach Chapter of the NAACP and in appreciation of his dedication and leadership within the community. Kevin Johnson finished his MA at CSULB while a Graduate Research Fellow at the campus’ Center for First Amendment Studies. He went on to complete a Ph.D. at the U. of Texas, and has returned to the campus not only as professor, but as the Research Director for the Center. Johnson also created and directed the highly successful first annual Hope and Freedom Film Festival held at The Art Theater.
