GE Questions

General Education: You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers!

The General Education requirements at CSULB offer a maze of opportunities to you.  But sometimes, that’s just the problem – there are too many choices!

Do you find yourself choosing a GE course because it fits your schedule or a friend says it’s easy, even though you aren’t really interested in the topic?

Instead of just checking off a box, use GE courses to explore areas that may interest you.  Or choose courses that build skills to help you become more successful in college – and afterward.

Examples

Are you shy and don’t really like speaking in class, but you want to teach?

Take COMM 130: Essentials of Public Speaking and THEA 113: Introduction to Acting to become more comfortable in front of others.

Are you interested in the law, but don’t know how to maximize your chances to gain admission to law school?

Use GE courses to make yourself a more interesting and well-prepared candidate to the admissions committee.

The key?

Be intentional about your GE choices.  You know yourself better than anyone else.  You know what you want.  You know what your interests are.  Make GE work for you!  Use the GE Works for Me planner to help you choose what courses are best for you and your goals.
