In the Realm of Untamed Waters: Thoughts on the Deep Ecology of the Ganges Delta”

In this talk Sudipta Sen examines the lesser-known histories and lifeworlds of the Ganges and the stories of those who have for generations redefined their lives in relation to the river, and who are now foremost among the victims and survivors of the climate change crisis.  

Sudipta Sen is Professor of History at UC Davis. He is the winner of the William Jones Memorial Medal by the Asiatic Society (Kolkata, India) for his contribution to the fields of History and Asian Studies, and author of Empire of Free Trade: The East India Company and the Making of the Colonial Marketplace (1998)Distant Sovereignty: National Imperialism and the Origins of British-India (2002), and Ganges: The Many Pasts of an Indian River (2019). 

The Solanki Lecture will be held in person in the College of Professional and International Education (CPIE) building conference rooms on the campus of CSULB
