Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2 Spirit Speaker Panel and Red Dress Event

April 25, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Not Alone @ The Beach is partnering with Indigenous Studies faculty to implement programs that raise awareness of MMIWG2S and the Red Dress event. MMIWG2S Day is officially on May 5th, however we have arranged a speaker panel on Tuesday April 25th with an on-campus/in-person and a zoom option. The speakers include Elder Vivian Young, Sarah Dear, and Heidi Lucero, and they will discuss topics like indigenous kinship, legal advocacy, and local movements. The Red Dress event is an installation of red dresses that represent missing and murdered indigenous women, girls, and 2-spirit people. This is a powerful visualization of exposing the violence that the indigenous community is and has been experiencing. Our campus advocates will also be present to provide support. The events will begin with the Red Dress installation by 12pm and the speaker panel will begin around 2 and go on for 1-2 hours.

Who can participate? Any CSULB student
How long is the program? Around 4 hours
When is it held? Tuesday April 25th from 12-4pm
