Long Beach, California is home to the largest Cambodian diaspora outside of Southeast Asia. April is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage month and also Cambodian New Year. In this talk, Dr. LinDa Saphan, researcher for the documentary “Don’t Think I’ve Forgotten”: Cambodia’s Lost Rock and Roll, and foremost scholar on Cambodian music and film, will discuss the significance of pleng samay, or rock music for multiple generations of Cambodian Americans. Please join us for this talk on cultural continuity through music, Asian American identities, and diasporic expressions.
