Representation and Reclamation: Native Americans in Video Games

April 19, 2022 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

The History Department and American Indian Studies would like to invite you to a Scholarly Intersections talk featuring Dr. Ashlee Bird (Western Abenaki) a Native American game designer, PhD in Native American Studies, and the Moreau Post Doctoral Fellow at the University of Notre Dame. Dr. Bird will present research from her dissertation and most recent scholarship that addresses representations of Native Americans in video games and analyzes specific colonial methodologies being replicated within game spaces in order to replace them with decolonial methods of game design that focus on what she calls “synthetic Indigenous identity,” oriented around promoting Indigenous futures.
