Why Geography@Beach?

Geography alumni are among the highest wage earners in the College of Liberal Arts! Our graduates rank second highest of all CLA majors in 2-year income post-graduation, surpassed only by Economics, and the third highest 5-year income in CLA surpassed only by Economics and Political Science.

The Department of Geography at CSULB is ranked #4 in California, #5 in the West and #30 in the USA! Both our undergraduate and graduate programs are the largest in the entire California State University (CSU) system where 17 of the 23 campuses offer Geography or GIS degrees. Our program supports more than 15% of all geography and GIS students in the entire CSU, a percentage well above any of the other large CSU geography programs (Source: Geography programs in the CSU).

What is Geography?

We are more than ‘state names and capitols’ and more than maps! Geography focuses on the spatial organization of human and physical landscapes,  interactions between human society and the physical environment, as well as the meanings that people bring to their place in the world. Geography sits at the nexus of the social and physical sciences, drawing from a range of theoretical and methodological approaches for understanding the world around us. See: Jobs & Careers – AAG
