52nd Annual Psych Day

April 18 @ 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The Psychology Student Association and International Honor Society in Psychology (PSA/Psi Chi) is hosting the 52nd Annual Psych Day on Thursday, April 18th, 2024 from 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM. The programming will be located directly in the Psych Quad in the Psychology Building.

This event is open to all students on campus and is advertised as such. Our organization invites local grad school representatives, various research labs, and other campus-affiliated organizations to table and give students information about their programs or opportunities. We also feature a research competition from 12:30 PM – 2:15 PM, where psychology students currently involved in research are able to submit abstracts and present posters to psychology master-level students and doctoral faculty. This will be followed by a research recruitment and tabling from 3 PM – 5 PM.

In addition, we will host two workshop presentations from 12:00 PM – 2:45 PM. Project OCEAN is hosting a QPR: Suicide Prevention training and UCLA Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital is conducting a panelist presentation on DEI in mental health care. Times and locations are listed in the attachments.

Finally, we saved our best for last:

We have invited keynote speaker, Dr. ChorSwang Ngin, a social cultural anthropologist, award-winning author, playwright, and a semi-retired professor at the Department of Anthropology at California State University, Los Angeles. In her book titled Identities on Trial in the United States, Dr. Ngin focuses on…

  • Problems of identifying Asian asylum seekers without re-inscribing “race” and without essentializing culture.
  • Exploring socially constructed concepts of “race” and lack of evidence in cases of violence against women
  • Highlighting the resilience and determination of asylum seekers, emphasizing themes of love in adversity.

The keynote speaker presentation will be the same day from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM in LH-150.
