A Discussion of John Fante‘s 1939 novel Ask the Dust

September 19, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The event, open to all via Zoom, will happen live on the campus of Stanford University, Tuesday, September 19 at 7:00 pm. Panelists will include Tobias Wolff, Robert Pogue Harrison, and Terry Gamble.

The web announcement features a chapter-essay from Stephen Cooper’s co-edition with Clorinda Donato of John Fante’s ASK THE DUST: A Joining of Voices and Views (Fordham UP, 2020). In “I Had Bandini: Reading Ask the Dust in Prison,” Shoshone-Paiute writer Joel Williams tells how he discovered the novel while serving a 27-year-to-life term in California’s maximum-security Mule Creek State Prison, and what that discovery ended up meaning to him.
